UTEP FOOD PANTRY
Food insecurity is a serious barrier to student success, and for many Miners, it’s a reality that affects daily life and academic progress.
The mission of the UTEP Food Pantry is simple: to alleviate food insecurity on campus and reduce barriers to professional and academic success. By providing nonperishable food and essential toiletry items, the pantry offers a lifeline to UTEP students facing an issue that often goes unseen: food insecurity.
Research from the UTEP Food and Housing Security Survey, led by Dr. Eva Moya and Dr. Gregory Schober, shows that over 60% of respondents have experienced food insecurity during their college career. As of the 2024-2025 year, 35% of students come from households earning less than $20,000 annually, forcing them to make difficult choices between feeding themselves and paying for education-related expenses like textbooks.
The UTEP Food Pantry works to break down barriers to nutrition, addressing challenges like transportation, low wages, and stigma, ensuring that students can focus on their studies without the constant worry of where their next meal will come from. Your support empowers Miners to persevere, thrive, and achieve their goals while never going hungry.
